ROCK AND ROLL 1954-2024 (A WALK-ON PART) BY NEIL MURRAY.
AUTHOR'S (AND ROCK's) STORY:
“Rock and Roll was born when I was born.” quoth Murray. Easy to say!
This book charts a journey through seventy years of popular music, through the lens of one troubadour, a young lad who, like millions, wanted to be a Rock and Roll Star and like millions became something else (in Murray’s case a lawyer). But the guitar didn’t stay in the attic and twin stories can now be told. Not only an informative account of Pop music over seven decades but his own left brain-right brain journey within it, an unlikely but intriguing combination of law and music, colourfully interwoven across Benghazi, Malta, Hong Kong, London, California and Nashville.
Both are told anecdotally, full of humour, irony, strange chance and serendipity, to which Murray adds a touch of introspection. “Why didn’t I become a Rock Star?!” What “psyche and circumstance” was at play?
You will put the book down the wiser as to Pop’s history, perhaps with some personal resonance and a wry smile thrown in.

AUTHOR'S BIOGRAPHY
Neil was born in 1954, around the generally-accepted dawn of Rock and Roll. He, like kids all over, dreamed of Rock stardom, instead becoming a successful City of London lawyer, practising for nearly four decades with a curious double life as a Rock guitar player, singer and songwriter. He met his Rock heroes not as a musician but as a lawyer, not even a music lawyer.
Somehow, at the age of fifty, he appeared on Top of The Pops with a chart hit. At sixty, he went back to Uni , getting a music production degree. At seventy, he still dons a Ziggy Stardust wig and plays Glam Rock. He knows a thing or two about the history of Pop and is here to tell its and his tale in a, sometimes bizarre, romp through seven decades.
